Members’ Choice Winners

A huge congratulations to Harris Rundle Optometrists who won the 2025 SightCare Award for the Members’ Choice Award.

Harris Rundle Optometrists has been nominated for this award in recognition of its remarkable 120-year legacy, providing eye care to the people of Belfast through four generations of family dedication. Founded in 1905 by Harris Rundle, the practice has weathered economic recessions, two World Wars, and The Troubles, maintaining its commitment to personal service and high-quality care. Today, under the leadership of Harris’ great-granddaughter, Lucy Rundle, the practice continues to thrive. Lucy, who took over after her father Alan’s retirement, follows in the footsteps of her forebears, ensuring that the practice’s reputation for attentive patient care endures. The family’s unwavering focus on personal service and community care, alongside their adaptability through challenging times, makes Harris Rundle Optometrists a deserving nominee for this award.

We spoke to Harris Rundle Optometrists about their recent win:

What was your initial reaction when you and your team found out that your practice had won the Members’ Choice Award?

Shock…. and then thinking we shouldn’t have sat quite so far back!

As we had an idea we were in the running for something, my wife, my daughter Lucy and I travelled over.  We were all delighted to find that our practice had been chosen for the Members’ Choice Award .  It was a great honour to receive it, and the response from the big crowd that was present at the event was wonderful.

I really didn’t think we’d win the award, it was nice just to be short-listed. After the shock came a sense of pride. I am really proud of our team and our Practice. I’m pleased that their hard work has been recognised.

What do you believe was the key factor that set your practice apart and led to this win?

We feel it must have come about as a result of the lovely write up we received in Optometry Today last summer, though we aren’t sure how they heard about our practice, and what made them approach us to do the feature.

Has this recognition inspired you to set new goals or be more ambitious in your practice? If so, how?

My daughter Lucy, who has been the principal Optometrist since my retirement, has displayed the award in our practice, and has plans to publicise it on our website and social media.

What exciting developments or future plans can we expect from your practice following this achievement?

My daughter Lucy, who has been the principal Optometrist since my retirement, has displayed the award in our practice, and has plans to publicise it on our website and social media.  We were very impressed by the video footage and presentation that had been put together for the award ceremony.
