Enfield’s visionary showcase at London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2025
In a vibrant celebration of unity and diversity, Enfield and the optical sector are set to make a remarkable impression at London’s New Year’s Day Parade on January 1, 2025. Curated by dispensing optician and community advocate Garry Kousoulou, the borough’s entry, themed “Unity in Vision,” will highlight the indispensable role of opticians and optometrists as cornerstones of the community, while embracing the rich tapestry of languages spoken within Enfield.
“As an optician, I recognise the universal importance of eye health,” Kousoulou remarked. “Our entry will feature eye test charts in various languages, symbolizing the 88 languages spoken in Enfield, to promote inclusivity and the critical role of regular eye examinations in fostering community well-being.”
This initiative has garnered widespread support from prominent organisations, including the General Optical Council, the Hakim Group, Sightcare, and Euromonitor International, NeedAnOptom, the Association of British Dispensing Opticians. Their backing underscores the collective commitment to enhancing public awareness about eye health and celebrating the diversity that defines Enfield.
Enfield’s participation in the parade is a testament to the vibrant and diverse workforce of opticians and optometrists who serve as the backbone of the community. Mayor Mohammad Islam, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted to lead Enfield’s entry in this year’s parade. Our presentation not only showcases the unity and diversity of our borough but also emphasises the vital contributions of our healthcare professionals.”
London’s New Year’s Day Parade 2025 will commence at 12 pm on January 1, 2025, starting from Piccadilly and proceeding through central London landmarks, including Regent Street St James’s, Pall Mall, Trafalgar Square, and Whitehall. The event is free for the public, with ticket holders advised to arrive from 11 am.
