Setting visionary goals for 2025

Welcome to  2025! It is the perfect time for independent practice owners and their teams to set their sights on success.  Setting clear and achievable goals can elevate your practice, improve patient care, and strengthen your business. At SightCare, we understand the unique challenges and opportunities facing practices, and we’re here to help you frame your objectives with clarity and purpose.

Let’s explore how you can craft and achieve meaningful goals for 2025.

 Embrace the power of specificity

Instead of setting vague targets like “increase sales” or “grow the patient base,” aim for something measurable:

– Example: Increase eyewear sales by 15% by implementing new marketing strategies by the end of Q3.

Breaking your goals into smaller, actionable steps ensures they remain realistic while pushing you toward meaningful progress.

 Prioritise patient-centric initiatives

The heart of every optical practice is the patient. In 2025, consider focusing your goals on enhancing the patient experience:

Mystery shopping

Use a secret shopper experience to find areas of improvement. When it comes to your business do you struggle to look at it from an unbiased point of view? Perhaps you struggle to make certain decisions because you’re too close to your business? Or maybe you simply want a fresh pair of eyes to give you a new perspective? That’s where Mystery Shopping can help. For just £60 + VAT per month we will send mystery shopping professionals into your practice(s) not once, not twice, but three times a year. The shopper will have no previously knowledge of your business and will book an appointment, attend their sight test and browse your selection of eyewear just like any other patient would. If you would like to find out more about Mystery Shopping, or to purchase this package today, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Simply sign up below or contact our Membership Manager Stacey Mead by emailing staceymead@sightcare.co.uk.

Get feedback with ease

Get feedback from your patients with minimal effort. Our Gro Hawk service is an automated customer feedback survey that has been designed to help you gain invaluable patient insight with minimal effort. Emails and text messages can be branded and personalised, and you can choose whether to send a list of pre-set questions or a list of your own. In addition, each patient is asked to rate your business on a scale of 1-10 with those rating you highly being prompted to tell their friends on social media. To find out more please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Stacey Mead, our Membership Manager, by emailing staceymead@sightcare.co.uk.

When patients feel valued, they’re more likely to become loyal advocates for your practice.

Stay ahead with continuing education

The field of optometry is constantly evolving, with advancements in technology, treatment methods, and patient care standards. In 2025, make professional development a cornerstone of your goals:

Work on your business, not just in it

Attend the SightCare Conference and gain CPD points on certain workshops. Better yet, if you are a SightCare member, your whole team can come for free!

Upskill your practice manager

In many independent optical practices, the management of the day-to-day operations is delegated to a practice manager. This is especially true if the owner is often the optometrist, responsible for delivering eye examinations and clinical care, or for some other reason is not in the practice hub. No matter how good the clinical care, experience shows that the success or otherwise of a practice is inextricably linked to how well (or not as the case may be), the business is managed. Our Practice Manager Training course is designed as a practical course to help develop both new and experienced practice managers to learn new skills and develop existing skills, as well as find ways to use those skills to improve the performance of the practice.

Upskill your staff

Introduction to Optics, is aimed at optical assistants and support staff new to optics, and is also suitable for existing team members seeking to enhance their knowledge. Packed with updated content it is designed to equip participants with the confidence and knowledge to be able to handle any enquiries or questions that customers might have. The 4 week course, run by SightCare coach and trainer Peter Greedy, provides a comprehensive introduction to optics, and comprises four 60-minute interactive online sessions, one per week over 4 weeks.

By staying informed, you position your practice as a leader in innovation and care.

Collaborate and network

One of the greatest assets for any optical practice team is a strong professional network. SightCare offers a platform for independent opticians to connect, share ideas, and access valuable resources. Why not:

– Join a Business Owner Support Group – free to SightCare members!
– Partner with local businesses to co-host events or promotions.
– Attend at least three networking events to exchange ideas and strategies.

Building relationships within the industry can open doors to opportunities you hadn’t yet imagined.

 Focus on sustainability

As environmental awareness continues to grow, patients are increasingly seeking practices that reflect their values. In 2025, consider integrating sustainable practices into your operations:

– Offer a recylcing scheme at your practice.
– Reduce paper usage by going digital with records and communication.
– Partner with brands that prioritise sustainability in their frames and lenses.

Not only is this good for the planet, but it also resonates with environmentally conscious patients.
