Practice manager training

In many independent optical practices, the management of the day-to-day operations is delegated to a practice manager. This is especially true if the owner is often the optometrist, responsible for delivering eye examinations and clinical care, or for some other reason is not in the practice hub. No matter how good the clinical care, experience shows that the success or otherwise of a practice is inextricably linked to how well (or not as the case may be), the business is managed.

This course, designed specifically for SightCare member practice managers, is designed as a practical course to help develop both new and experienced practice managers to learn new skills and develop existing skills, as well as find ways to use those skills to improve the performance of the practice.

Course delivery

The course is delivered over 6 months, spending two sessions each month on 6 primary topics as follows:

Creating and managing a high performing team
Creating competitive advantage
Driving customer loyalty
Mastering marketing
Effective communication
Knowing your numbers – financial and KPI management

This offers delegates the chance to test and measure ideas. Experience suggests that completing the course from home can be a sensible way to achieve this. Each session will be recorded.

Course structure

Session 1

Tuesday 5 November, between 9.00 and 11.00am, this session covers the thinking behind the subject in a webinar discussion workshop. Break out rooms will be used to enable delegates to discuss ideas in small groups.

Session 2

Tuesday 26 November between 9.00 and 10.00 is the review session, where delegates discuss how they have used their learnings to make an impact in the practice.

Each course will run in small cohorts of between 6 and 12 delegates, allowing time for each person to discuss their own practice but with enough delegates to provide a rich pool of experience to learn from each other.

1-2-1 coaching sessions

The course includes a monthly 1-2-1 session with the coach, David Samuel, arranged at a suitable time with the delegate. These sessions are valuable, confidential discussions whereby any challenges and issues can be discussed in private with the coach and are designed to help implement the learning in practice.
